Development Roadmap

From opportunity to bankable infrastructure project.

Developing a utility-scale solar power project requires multiple technical, regulatory, commercial and financial stages. We are approaching the 100 MW Zambia Solar Project through a structured development pathway.
  1. 01

    Phase 1

    Current focus

    Project Development

Objective: Establish the project's development foundation.

    Activities may include

    • Project definition
    • Site assessment
    • Stakeholder engagement
    • Preliminary technical assessment
    • Development planning
    • Project structuring
  2. 02

    Phase 2

    Next stage

    Feasibility & Technical Studies

Objective: Establish technical and commercial feasibility.

    Activities may include

    • Solar resource assessment
    • Energy-yield modelling
    • Preliminary engineering
    • Site investigation
    • Grid assessment
    • Preliminary project cost assessment
  3. 03

    Phase 3

    Environmental & Social

Objective: Establish environmental and social requirements.

    Activities may include

    • Environmental screening
    • Environmental and Social Impact Assessment, where required
    • Social assessment
    • Stakeholder engagement
    • Environmental management planning
  4. 04

    Phase 4

    Grid & Interconnection

Objective: Determine the technical pathway for connecting the project to the electricity system.

    Activities may include

    • Grid studies
    • Interconnection assessment
    • Transmission requirements
    • Connection cost assessment
    • Technical approvals
  5. 05

    Phase 5

    Offtake & PPA

Objective: Establish a commercially viable route to market for the electricity.

    Activities may include

    • Offtaker identification
    • Commercial discussions
    • Tariff analysis
    • PPA negotiations
    • Legal review
    • Credit assessment
  6. 06

    Phase 6

    Licensing & Regulatory

Objective: Obtain the required project approvals and licences.

    Activities may include

    • Regulatory applications
    • Licensing
    • Government approvals
    • Land-related requirements
    • Environmental approvals
    • Other statutory requirements
  7. 07

    Phase 7

    Financial Structuring

Objective: Prepare the project for institutional financing.

    Activities may include

    • Financial model
    • Capital expenditure assessment
    • Operating cost assessment
    • Revenue modelling
    • Debt / equity structure
    • Investor documentation
    • Lender due diligence
  8. 08

    Phase 8

    Financial Close

Objective: Secure the capital required to implement the project.

    Activities may include

    • Equity investment
    • Project debt
    • Development finance
    • Strategic investment
    • Other appropriate financing structures
  9. 09

    Phase 9

    Construction

Subject to successful completion of development, approvals and financial close, the project would proceed toward construction through appropriately qualified engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) partners.

  10. 10

    Phase 10

    Commercial Operation

Following construction, commissioning and required approvals, the objective would be to commence commercial operation and long-term power generation. Our target is for the full 100 MW to be built and trading power by 2030.

Development principle

We do not skip the work required to establish bankability.

Every major stage is subject to technical findings, commercial negotiations, regulatory requirements and investor/lender due diligence. The roadmap may therefore change as the project progresses.
