Questions & Answers

Clear answers, plainly stated.

The questions investors and partners ask most often about the project, its stage, funding and structure.

The project

What is the project?

The project is a proposed 100 MW utility-scale solar photovoltaic power project in Zambia, being advanced by Q Energy Renewable Ltd.

Who is developing the project?

The project is being developed by Q Energy Renewable Ltd, a UK-based project development company.

What stage is the project at?

The project is currently in the development / feasibility stage.

Q Energy Renewable is seeking development funding and strategic partners to progress the project through the next stages of technical, commercial, environmental, regulatory and financial development.

Has construction started?

No. Construction would follow the successful completion of the required development, approvals, financing and contractual stages.

What makes this project different from other solar projects in Zambia?

Q Energy Renewable is developing this project as a structured investment opportunity and is focused on establishing the technical, commercial, regulatory and financial foundations required for bankability.

The specific competitive advantages of the project will be confirmed through feasibility, site, grid, offtake and commercial studies rather than assumed in advance.

Funding & investment

How much funding is currently being sought?

Q Energy Renewable is currently presenting an initial development funding requirement of US$300,000.

This is intended to support development activities and is not the total construction cost of the 100 MW project.

What will the development funding be used for?

The funding may support feasibility and technical studies, grid assessment, environmental and social work, legal and regulatory activities, PPA/offtake development, financial modelling, project structuring and preparation for subsequent investment.

Is the project fully financed?

No. The project is currently seeking development funding.

The larger capital requirement for construction and long-term implementation would be addressed through subsequent investment and project-financing arrangements.

What does an investor receive?

The precise investment structure will depend on the investor, amount invested, stage of development and negotiated transaction structure.

Possible structures may include development finance, equity, strategic investment or other mutually agreed arrangements. No ownership percentage or financial return is guaranteed by this website.

Can investors conduct due diligence?

Yes. Q Energy Renewable welcomes appropriate due diligence by serious prospective investors and strategic partners.

Confidential information may require an NDA and controlled Investor Room access.

Offtake & market

Does the project have a PPA?

The project's offtake/PPA strategy is part of the development process.

Any statement regarding a signed PPA will only be made once a definitive agreement has been executed.

Who will buy the electricity?

Q Energy Renewable is exploring appropriate offtake opportunities, including potential opportunities associated with Zambia's commercial and industrial sectors.

Specific offtake arrangements remain subject to negotiations and definitive agreements.

Why Zambia?

Zambia's energy strategy places significant emphasis on diversification, renewable generation and increased electricity capacity. The country's Integrated Resource Plan also identifies mining, industry, agriculture and other sectors as important drivers of future electricity demand.

Why solar?

Solar can contribute to diversification of Zambia's generation mix and reduce dependence on a single generation technology.

The Government has reported significant growth in solar capacity as part of its broader energy-diversification programme.
